Keylor Navas

Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas waves goodbye to the club as he moves to French club Paris saint Germain.

Keylor Navas who has spent five (5) years with the Spanish capital club since his move from Levante has decided to seek for new challenges outside Spain.

He won a lot of trophies while defending the post of Real Madrid since his arrival five years ago. Some of his trophies include; three (3) consecutive champions league from 2016 – 2018, a la Liga title in 2016/2017 season, one (1) Spanish super cup in 2017, two (2) Uefa super cup in 2014 and 2017, four (4) Fifa club world cup in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018. During his era in Real Madrid, he has been awarded la Liga player of the month in 2014, Uefa champion league goal keeper of the season in the 2017/2018 edition, and many more awards.

The goalkeeper’s decision to leave the club came after the signing of former Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois. The Belgian goalkeeper who has previously played for local rivals Atletico Madrid came and limited the playing time of the Costa Rican.

Despite backing from most of his team mates, his decision to leave  Real Madrid came after Paris saint Germain who are in need of a goalkeeper with champions league experience, offered him a mouth-watering  contract that would see him earn more than six (6) million euros yearly. He saw that as a good opportunity to leave after been under appreciated in the Bernabeu.

The thirty one year old goalkeeper was looking forward towards fighting for his position as the no 1 in Madrid but his hope was dashed after head coach Zidane made it clear during the beginning of the league that Courtois was his first choice keeper.

Many thought that Zidane might hand him his last chance to play for Real Madrid in last night’s fixture against Villarreal but he didn’t.

Navas leaves Real Madrid as one of the most successful goalkeepers in the club’s history.
